Starla Jo McCutchen

Starla Jo McCutchen, age 69, died peacefully on June 4, 2024. She is no longer in pain and is now in the comforting and loving arms of Jesus, her Savior.

Starla was born on August 12, 1954, in Wellington, Texas to Joe and Betty McCutchen. She was a resident of Amarillo and attended Bonham Street Christian School and then graduated from Amarillo High School in 1971.

She worked for TWA Airlines and traveled internationally for several years. She later worked for local travel agencies and loved being in the airline industry. She experienced wonderful adventures and made life-long friends.

She later worked for On Angels Wings in Phoenix, Arizona helping people with special needs to find jobs and manage challenges of everyday life.

Starla’s strength was her ability to love and accept people. She was a forgiving, humble person and had a heart made of gold. She will always be remembered for her fun-loving, free spirit.

Starla is preceded in death by her father, Billy Joe McCutchen. She leaves behind two children, Elliott O’Brien and Erin O’Brien. They were the love of her life, and her greatest joy was their happiness.

Remaining family members include Starla’s mother, Betty McCutchen, siblings Karen Pope, Kyle McCutchen, and Stephanie Lowther. She had multiple nieces and nephews and loved hearing about how they were doing and always wanted them to know how much she loved them.

A special thank you to BSA Hospice of the Southwest for understanding Starla’s heart and meeting her needs in such a loving way. Teresa was her primary nurse and words cannot express the depth of gratitude our family has for her help during the final days.

Ruby Davis

Ruby Davis, 73, of Amarillo, passed away June 1, 2024. She was born October 12, 1950, in Vernon, Texas, to Thomas Brown and Minnie Bell Brown.

She was such a good person. She enjoyed putting puzzles together, playing games on the computer and feeding birds. Her favorite TV show was NCIS.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Minnie Bell Brown and Thomas Brown, and her grandparents, Waylon and Ruby Ayers.

She is survived by her husband Roy Davis; her sons, Billy Davis, Michael Lugo, Jeff Davis, and Jeremy Davis; a stepson, Donnie Davis, and nine grandchildren.

Marcella Delayne Duncan Farris “Marty”

Our beloved Marcella Delayne Duncan Farris “Marty” passed peacefully from this life on May 31, 2024. Marty requested that there not be a service, so the family will honor that wish.

Marty, as she was known by friends and family, was born February 18, 1952, in Amarillo, Texas. She was a lifelong resident of Amarillo and received her high school diploma from Amarillo High School.

She met the love of her life, Tommy Farris and they were married on June 7, 1971. After working several jobs, including Fritz’s OK Cleaners, she attended Amarillo College and graduated with her Associate’s Degree in Nursing. She then began a 30-year career as a Registered Nurse with BSA. After working as a floor nurse for several years, she became the Diabetic Educator for BSA and received her certification as a Certified Diabetics Educator. She retired from BSA in 2016.

Marty was known for her wit and sweet spirit. She had a creative side and enjoyed needlework, sewing, and scrapbooking. Marty also had a generous heart and supported numerous charitable organizations. Her greatest joys in life were husband, son, and granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Jean Duncan.

Her survivors include her husband of 53 years, Tommy Farris of Amarillo; one son, Skyler Farris of Amarillo, and one granddaughter, Arelynn Farris of Mansfield, Texas. Her memory will also be cherished by her three brothers, Lowell Duncan and wife Debbie of Amarillo, Nolan Duncan of Dallas, and Kevin Duncan and wife Jana of Amarillo, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to BSA Hospice for their care of Marcella.

The family suggests memorials be made in Marty’s memory to your favorite charity.

James Edward Lis

James Edward Lis was born on November 22, 1981, in Shreveport, Louisiana to Rolan Lis and Stephanie Starling.

James Lis was a loving father and a dedicated military and law enforcement professional who served God and his Country for over 24 years. James was a husband, father, martial artist, and a decorated Marine Corps combat Veteran.

In his Military service James achieved the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal with a ‘V’ for Valor for his actions in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

James was a Federal Agent with the Office of Secure Transportation, he achieved the title of: Special Response Force team member, Vehicle Lead, Convoy Commander, Special Response Force Squad Commander, and Deputy Director of Operations on Unit 4, Central Command.

James did not receive his leadership solely for those that he worked with. His dedication to his faith, combined with a servant leadership mindset and a passion for fighting was a tangible reflection of his warrior spirit. James loved to play guitar and he never cooked food that didn’t taste amazing.

James Lis was an amazing father of five amazing children Makayla Marie, Mercedes Marie, Christoper James, James Henry and David James Lis. In the words of David Lis age 9, “He was the best dad ever.”

James’ greatest passion was Martial Arts. He holds a first-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, as well as a fourth-degree black belt in Kickboxing.

On February 8, 2024, James married Ashley Root and welcomed his bonus daughter, Zayleigh Floyd to his family.

James was preceded in death by his stepfather, John Beebe; maternal grandparents, James and Ellen Starling, and paternal grandfather, Edward Lis. He is survived by his wife, Ashley Lis; sons Christpher Lis, James Henry Lis, and David Lis; his daughters, Makayla Lis, Mercedes Lis, and Zayleigh Floyd; his parents, Roland and Dawn Lis, and Stephanie Beebe; his sister Paige Hardy, and his grandmother, Betty Hadley.

James left this Earth for his heavenly home on Memorial Day, which was quite fitting as he gave everything he had to his Country and His Brothers. “Praise be to The Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle.” Psalm 144:1

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 1st, at Oasis Southwest Baptist Church (8201 Canyon Drive, Amarillo TX). Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 14200 TX Plains Tr, I-27 Amarillo.

The family will receive visitors from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, May 31st, at Lighthouse Funeral Home, 3707 Wolflin Ave, Amarillo TX.

Leandro “Garry” McCaughtry

Leandro “Garry” McCaughtry, 69, of Amarillo, went to his Heavenly Home on May 22, 2024, just four days after his earthly birthday. He was born May 18, 1955, in Liberal Kansas, to Charles W. Woodring and Bertha M. Gonzales.

He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan who loved dancing and music. He had a big heart, loved to spend time with family, adored his wife and family, was a hero to his siblings, did anything for his kids and grandkids. Garry was protective of his family, he was a protector and provider, loving and caring father, and his grandbabies were his world.

He was a comical person with a great sense of humor and loved to play pranks. He was a creative artist, a wood carver. Garry loved cooking shows. He rode motorcycles and bicycles, and he was a major fighter even until his last breath both mentally and physically.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Margaret Carpenter and her husband, Chuck, Georgetta Gillespie, Darlene Lopez, and Marylynn Pendigraf; brothers, George McCaughtry, Jr. George McCaughtry, and Charles W. Woodring, Jr., and a daughter-in-law, Kimberly Ann Martinez.

Garry is survived by his wife, JoAnn D. McCaughtry; his sons, Gerald J. Martinez, Danny Lee McCaughtry, Garry McCaughtry, Jr. and wife, Lupe; his daughters, Raquel F. McCaughtry, and Heather D. McCaughtry; Godchildren, Iesha Woodring, and Richard Garcia; grandchildren, Abigaile L. McCaughtry, Gerald J. Martinez, Jr., Shania D. Martinez, Nathaniel J. McCaughtry and wife Bryleigh P. Campbell, Melanie Jones, Keimonie D. McCaughtry, Kailonei A. McCaughtry, Tyrus McCaughtry, Nevaeh N. McCaughtry, Avan McCaughtry, and Daniel McCaughtry. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, Zarian Mendoza, Zadrian Mendoza, Zadrielle Mendoza, and Zarious Mendoza, as well as his siblings, Suzann Sanchez and husband Bernardino, Charlotte Otero and husband, Saul, Raymond Woodring, and wife Mary, Luella Rodriquez, Ada Woodring, Luis Woodring, Marcelina Perez, and husband Gerardo, and Solida Williams, and husband Royal.

There will be a celebration gathering at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Lighthouse Funeral Home, 3707 Wolflin Ave., Amarillo, Texas.
