how much does it cost a month to stay at the ymca and what other cheap places are there to live like a tent or a shed im just wondering i have somewere to live but if your living in a rented house and you could save £1000+ a month would you stay at the ymca or in a tent or shed for 5 years then you would have 60k saved up and could put that towards buying a house i would do that if i could earn 60,000 in 5 years would you is that a good way to save alot of money

Why don't you go for a house share instead. Where individual rooms are rented out in a normal place of residence. They are usually very cheap.

I used to live near a YMCA. It really wasn't somewhere you'd stay if you had the choice.

There are other hostels, such as youth hostels that may be nicer and more reasonably priced. Where in the UK are you looking?

Over my years, as an agent, I have come across I have seen caravans in parents gardens but the most surprising have been innocent looking garages that inside have converted to a studio home to enable the children to save as you want to. Seen this more than once.
A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build. In latter part of career specialising in commercial - mostly business sales.
